Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 5, 2026

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Kyndli handles your personal information. Kyndli is owned and operated by Andrea Therese Butterworth, an Australian sole trader trading as Kyndli (ABN [your ABN]), referred to in this policy as "we," "us," or "Kyndli."

Kyndli is a mobile application that helps people prepare for difficult conversations through guided AI-powered reflection. The app and this website are designed for use by adults aged 18 and over.

This policy covers both the Kyndli mobile app and the kyndli.com.au website. It explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data.

We've tried to write this policy in plain language. If anything is unclear, please contact us at support@kyndli.com.au.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to:

  • People who use the Kyndli mobile app

  • People who visit kyndli.com.au and sign up for our mailing list

  • People who contact us via support@kyndli.com.au

This policy does not apply to third-party services you may access through Kyndli (such as the App Store, your device operating system, or external links). Those services have their own privacy policies.

We do not sell your data

We want to be clear about this upfront: Kyndli does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We don't share your data with third parties for their marketing purposes. We don't allow advertising on our platform. We don't sell aggregate or de-identified user information for commercial gain. The only third parties who handle your data are the service providers we use to operate Kyndli, listed below — and they process your data strictly to provide our service to you.

Information we collect

We collect different information depending on how you interact with Kyndli. We've separated this into app data and website data.

Information collected through the Kyndli app

Anonymous account identifier. When you start using Kyndli, our system generates an anonymous user ID — a random identifier that has no connection to your name, email, or any other personal information. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any other identifying information at signup.

Conversation content. When you talk with Gwen (our AI assistant), we store the messages you send, the responses Gwen provides, and timestamps. This is what makes it possible to return to your past conversations.

Images. If you share images (such as screenshots of text conversations) with Gwen, we store those images so they can be referenced in your conversation.

Usage data. We collect limited data about how the app is used — for example, when conversations were created and updated, how many images have been shared. This helps us understand whether the app is working as intended.

Technical data. Like most mobile apps, Kyndli may collect basic technical information when it runs — such as your device type, operating system version, and any crash reports if the app encounters errors. This is used only for fixing bugs and improving the app.

Information collected through kyndli.com.au

Email address (if provided). If you sign up to our mailing list to be notified when Kyndli launches publicly, we collect your email address through our email marketing service.

Basic website analytics. Our website may use minimal essential cookies needed to function. We do not track your behavior across the web or build advertising profiles.

Information we do NOT collect

We don't collect:

  • Your name, address, phone number, or other identifying details (in the app)

  • Your location

  • Your contacts

  • Photos from your library (only specific images you choose to share with Gwen)

  • Information about other apps you use

  • Behavioral tracking across websites

How we use your information

We use the information we collect for these specific purposes:

To provide the Kyndli service. Your conversations and images are stored so you can return to them. Your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate Gwen's responses (more on this below).

To detect potentially harmful content. Gwen uses AI to detect when conversations may indicate someone is in crisis. When detected, Gwen shows you immediate support resources. The content of crisis-flagged messages is stored like other messages — we do not review crisis content manually, contact emergency services on your behalf, or share crisis-related messages with third parties beyond what's described in this policy.

To improve Kyndli. We may review aggregate, de-identified data about how the app is used to identify problems and improve features. We do not review individual conversations for product development.

To communicate with you. If you've signed up to our mailing list, we'll send you updates about Kyndli's launch and product news. You can unsubscribe at any time.

To respond to your requests. When you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond.

To comply with the law. If we're legally required to disclose information, we will. This includes responding to court orders, legal processes, or government requests.

Third-party services we use

Kyndli relies on a small set of trusted third-party services. Each has their own privacy practices.

Supabase (database and storage). Your account data, conversations, and images are stored using Supabase. Supabase is a US-based company, but the Kyndli data is hosted on their Sydney (Australia) servers. This means your data stays within Australia. You can read Supabase's privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy.

Anthropic (AI provider). Gwen is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. When you send a message to Gwen, the content of your conversation is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. Anthropic processes this data to provide the service. According to Anthropic's commercial API terms, the conversations are not used to train Anthropic's AI models by default. You can read Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

Klaviyo (email marketing). If you sign up to our mailing list on kyndli.com.au, your email address is stored in Klaviyo. Klaviyo is a US-based service. By signing up, you're consenting to your email being transferred to and stored in the United States. You can read Klaviyo's privacy policy at klaviyo.com/privacy.

Apple App Store / Google Play. When you download Kyndli from the App Store, Apple has its own relationship with you and collects information per their privacy policy. Kyndli doesn't see your Apple ID, payment information, or any data Apple collects.

Where your data is stored

App data (conversations, images, etc.): Stored on Supabase servers located in Sydney, Australia.

AI processing: When you message Gwen, the message content is sent to Anthropic's API. Anthropic operates globally; the processing may occur on servers in the United States or other countries.

Email marketing data: Your email address (if you sign up to our mailing list) is stored by Klaviyo on servers in the United States.

International transfers: Some of your data is transferred internationally as described above. We rely on standard privacy protections (such as contractual safeguards with our providers) when international transfers occur.

How long we keep your data

Conversations and images in the app:

  • Conversations are kept for 12 months after your most recent activity on them. Conversations untouched for 12 months are automatically deleted.

  • You can delete individual conversations or all your data at any time via the app's Settings.

  • When you delete a conversation, it is permanently removed from our systems.

Email addresses on the mailing list:

  • We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or request deletion. You can unsubscribe via any email we send.

Your rights

You have rights regarding your personal information under Australian privacy law:

Right to access your data. You can request a copy of the information we hold about you.

Right to delete your data. You can request that we delete your information.

Right to correct your data. You can ask us to correct inaccurate information.

Right to know what we hold. You can ask us what information we have about you.

Right to lodge a complaint. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

How to exercise these rights

Because Kyndli uses anonymous authentication, we have limited ability to verify your identity for data requests. In practice:

  • In the app: You can find your anonymous user ID in Settings → Privacy. Use this ID when contacting us for data requests.

  • By email: Contact us at support@kyndli.com.au with your anonymous user ID and your request. We'll respond within 30 days.

We're working on improved tools for you to manage your own data directly in the app.

Children

Kyndli is not designed for use by anyone under 18 years old. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will delete their data. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has used Kyndli, please contact us at support@kyndli.com.au.

How we keep your data secure

We take reasonable steps to protect your information:

  • All data is transmitted over secure (HTTPS) connections

  • Database access is restricted using Row Level Security policies — each user can only access their own conversations

  • Our AI processing service (Anthropic) uses industry-standard security

  • We use strong access controls for our own systems

  • We don't store any identifying information that could link your conversations to your real identity

No system is perfectly secure, but we take security seriously. If we ever experience a data breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.

Cookies

The kyndli.com.au website uses only essential cookies needed for the site to function. We do not use:

  • Behavioral tracking cookies

  • Advertising cookies

  • Third-party analytics that profile you across sites

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy over time. When we make significant changes, we will:

  • Update the "Effective date" at the top of this page

  • Notify you in the app or via email if you've signed up to our mailing list

  • Continue to display the previous version on our website for at least 30 days for comparison

By continuing to use Kyndli after a policy change, you agree to the updated policy.
